In Xanadu did Kubla Khan …

“In Xanadu did Kubla Khan
A stately pleasure-dome decree:
Where Alph, the sacred river, ran
Through caverns measureless to man
Down to a sunless sea. ”

Coleridge’s Kubla Khan holds a special place for me because it is the first poem I truly enjoyed being taught. When the prof who taught poetry walked in that day I was very much partial to prose. But after Kubla, the pleasure dome he decreed in Xanadu and the way she recited it to the class, Xanandu was etched somewhere within me forever… Thereafter, I began to love verse. I was interested in reading more verse.. I found joy in their metres, rhymes & rhythms and was dazzled by variety of emotions that were encapsulated in verse 🙂
